Department of Transportations School Bus Inspections
Each summer Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers come to the Transportation Department to perform annual bus inspections.  They are looking for anything that may put the public, drivers or students at risk. They check brakes, tires, steering, and warning buzzers. They inspect the engines for exhaust leaks and door seals so fumes cannot enter the bus. They also inspect the frame for cracks, check for oil leaks, all warning lights and general maintenance of the buses. The HUSD mechanics, along with the drivers, are responsible everyday to report, and then repair any issues with that bus.  New buses have the same maintenance requirements as older buses. At the end of the inspection process, DPS officers report the findings in terms of minor violations and /or major violations.  This year we had no major violations for our 75 busses.  That really speaks volumes for our mechanics in the daily care of the buses.  Congratulations for a job very well done!
